Recycled Runway
About Recycled Runway
Bib & Tucker Sew-Op's Recycled Runway is a celebration of fashion, innovation, and sustainability!
In 2017 we started our program with Recycled Runway as a fundraiser where community groups competed with each other. In 2020 it shifted from a fundraising event to a youth focused program for Birmingham area middle and high school students.
Our Recycled Runway program runs for 8 weeks normally starting in mid-February and runs though April culminating in a runway showcase event at The Birmingham Museum of Art.
During these workshops students create an upcycled look from repurposed materials, while also learning from area designers, fashion influences, and sewists. They learn how to bring their ideas from a design or a dream to a physical garment. Each year is themed with a base idea for students to work out from. All our young designers get a professional lesson on walking the runway and choose if they want to walk their own look or bring in a friend to walk the look.
