All about your QUARK kit

What's QUARK?

QUARK (Quilting Activity Resource Kit) is the first in a line of products designed and produced by Bib & Tucker Sew-Op that teaches the fundamentals of math through the principles of art. The kit's modality is hand-sewing, which focuses the mind and reinforces hand-eye coordination in young people. The first title, "Rectangles and Squares" focuses on core curriculum mathematics standards (4th - 6th grade) as outlined by the Alabama Department of Education and accessed through the ALEX website (Alabama Learning Exchange).

QUARK was tested among 105 Birmingham-area students as an enrichment activity during the 2017 SAIL (Summer Adventures In Learning) summer camp program. Five SAIL-funded sites received free QUARKs and instruction thanks to a small SAIL grant. Boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15 participated in the activity. Pre- and post-activity surveys were administered to gauge the activity's success rate in one mathematical area and one art area.
