The March Quilts Year 3— Loving V. Virginia (2017)

Year 3: Loving v. Virginia

The third year of The March Quilts project celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Loving v. Virginia Supreme Court ruling that knocked down the ban on interracial marriage in Virginia and fifteen other states. Background blocks were chosen to mimic skin tones, and the quilt was put together to resemble the patchwork heart logo of the year’s theme (are all the logos going to be included?). As stated by one block in the quilt, “WE’RE ALL A LITTLE MIXED.” This quilt’s message is one of universal love, acceptance, and understanding and extends to same-sex marriage.
