Crazy Quilt Chair Workshop

Join Bib & Tucker Sew-Op member Shirley Hamilton for an exciting quilting workshop. In this class, you will first construct your own crazy quilt using fabric scraps and strips. If desired, you can add ribbons, trims, decorative stitches or embellishments as you go (do an
internet search for crazy quilt ideas). Using provided tools, the crazy quilt will then be permanently attached to the seat and back of your chair. You will be using staple guns, hot glue guns, hammers, sharp rotary cutters, irons and other tools in this technique.

Basic skills needed:
  • Basic knowledge of your sewing machine and comfort with sewing a basic straight stitch. 

During this class you will learn:

  • How to sew fabric scraps and strips with a straight stitch onto a muslin foundation.
  • How to adjust your straight stitch for a stronger seam.
  • How to choose the right thread for different purposes and use different threads and built-in decorative stitches to enhance your surface design.
  • How to use a manual and electric screwdriver and staple gun.
  • How to make cording to trim your cushions and use a hot glue gun to attach your cording trim.

 

Supplies Needed:

-Bring your sewing machine with basic supplies such as needles, thread, bobbins, basic feet. (If you do not have a machine you can rent one from Bib & Tucker for $15.00)

-Either of these specific folding chairs from Walmart or Lowe's. Folding Metal Chair with removable back and seat cushion. Important: Be sure to find a
chair that uses removable screws instead of permanent brads. You must be able to remove the cushioned seat and back for this project.
- Brown bag lunch or snack (optional)

Supplies Provided:
-Fabric scraps. You are welcome to bring your own or buy from Bib & Tucker prior to the class date.
