Garment Sewing 101

Join skilled sewist Pam H. as she guides you though getting started with garment sewing basics. This class is perfect for beginning who want to venture into garment sewing, those who are familiar with using a sewing machine and ready to take on a sewing pattern. 

Pam is a retired preschool teacher and director of 20 years. She learned to sew when she was 6 by hand-stitching clothes for her Raggedy Ann, eventually graduating to her mother’s pink Atlas sewing machine. These days she sews not only for herself but her granddaughter, as well. Knitting, drinking coffee, watching Jeopardy, and hiking are her other favorite pastimes.

Dates: March 15th

Time: 2pm- 4:30pm

Location: Bib & Tucker Sew-Op Shop, 7001 Crestwood Blvd. Suite #806, Birmingham, AL 35210

 

During this class you will learn:

-Reading a sewing pattern  

-Understanding fabric grain 

-Right sides/wrong sides together (RST/WST)

-Basting

-Top stitching

-Understitching

 -Gathering stitch

 -Back stitch

-Importance of/applying interfacing

-Sewing a dart

Skills Needed:

-Basic sewing machine skills

-Cutting fabric and use of iron

Supplies Included:

-Quilting fabric

-Interfacing

Supplies Needed:

-Sewing Machine, bring your needles and bobbins. (If you do not have a machine you can rent one from Bib & Tucker for $15.00)
-standard all purpose sewing machine thread 
-extra size 14 needles for your machine
-scissors
-straight pins and pin cushion
-measuring tape
-hand sewing needle

REFUND POLICY & QUESTIONS

-Bib & Tucker is a 501c3 non-profit organization and the funds generated from this class help to compensate our instructors and fund our overall programs. For this reason we are only able to issue refunds or class credits, if WE, Bib & Tucker Sew-Op happen to cancel or reschedule this class. If YOU register for this class and are unable to attend for any reason, we offer a 50% refund for cancellations 30 or more days prior to the class, we offer no refund for cancellations less than 30 days before the class.
