Potaoto Printing (The Intersection of Art & Agriculture Series)
The Intersection of Art and Agriculture, a series of four workshops that will teach the public how to dye and embellish textiles using food, leaves, and flowers grown at Jones Valley Teaching Farm. The goal of this programming is to educate the public that attractive textile-based creations can be made sustainably with materials that can be readily found growing around us in our yard. This collaboration will demonstrate that the intersection of art and agriculture can be very fruitful and good for the planet. These workshops are made possible by The City of Birmingham Community Arts Grant through Create Birmingham.
In this third workshop of the series you will join local textile artist Wilhemina Thomas as she introduces you to the basics of printing on fabric with potatoes. Wilhemina Thomas has a background in creating period costumes, embroidery and other textile arts.
In this potato printing class you will . . .
Date: Wednesday September 24th 2025
Time: 6PM - 8PM
Location: Jones Valley Teaching Farm, 701 25th St N, Birmingham, AL 35203
During this class you will learn:
-How to carve potatoes for printing
-Using other food items to create prints on fabric
Supplies Needed:
-All supplies included
-Wear clothing you don't mind getting dirty in

-Bib & Tucker is a 501c3 non-profit organization and the funds generated from this class help to compensate our instructors and fund our overall programs. For this reason we are only able to issue refunds or class credits, if WE, Bib & Tucker Sew-Op happen to cancel or reschedule this class. If YOU register for this class and are unable to attend for any reason, we offer a 50% refund for cancellations 30 or more days prior to the class, we offer no refund for cancellations less than 30 days before the class.
