Kayju Applique Class
Join textile artist Rachel Bates at Bib & Tucker Sew-Op, as she teaches you how to machine applique our KAYJU applique pattern designed by Bib & Tucker Sew-Op co-founder Ms. Annie Bryant. Open to ages 12 and up.
Rachel Bates is a textile and fiber artist who resides in Birmingham, Alabama. She inherited a love of needle arts and quilting from her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. The influence of the Birmingham art community led her to experiment with traditional and modern fiber and textile techniques that include hand dying, weaving, charcoal mark-making, sketch acrylics and watercolors. Her primary emphasis is imagery and portraiture.
Rachel Bates remains committed to a teaching tradition of workshops and demonstrations for children and adults. She has participated as an Artist Teacher at Space One Eleven for several years and has been invited to present her skills and art at local quilting guilds.

During this class you will learn:
-How to either machine or hand applique using our KAYJU Applique pattern (please purchase and print the pattern before coming to class.) You will learn basic applique skills, top stitching, how to use interfacing.
-Basic knowledge of your machine is required for this class, how to thread and wind a bobbin if you plan to use your sewing machine. For hand applique students no sewing experience is needed
Supplies Needed:
-Sewing Machine if you plan to do machine applique(If you do not have a machine you can rent one from Bib & Tucker for $15.00)
-Printed copy of your KAYJU digital applique pattern (You can purchase it here for $10.00)
-Extra Sewing Machine Needle if machine sewing (Universal needle is preferred)
-Extra Bobbins for your Machine if machine sewing
-hand sewing needle (needle threader if needed)
-thread
-1 yard double sided fusible interfacing
-scissors
-pins
We will provide a selection of fat quarters for your project, but you are welcome to bring your own. The project calls for five fat quarters.

-Bib & Tucker is a 501c3 non-profit organization and the funds generated from this class help to compensate our instructors and fund our overall programs. For this reason we are only able to issue refunds or class credits, if WE, Bib & Tucker Sew-Op happen to cancel or reschedule this class. If YOU register for this class and are unable to attend for any reason, we offer a 50% refund for cancellations 30 or more days prior to the class, we offer no refund for cancellations less than 30 days before the class.
