The Heart Sampler: Foundational & Intermediate Embroidery
Wilhelmina Thomas is a Birmingham-based storyteller, craftivist, and founder of a nonprofit historical organization-Masonton. She utilizes textile arts and hand embroidery as primary mediums for community education and the preservation of historical narratives.
- Embroidery Hoop: 6-8 inches in diameter. Required to keep fabric "drum tight" to prevent puckering.
- Needles: Standard embroidery needles.
- Fabric: Heavyweight linen, high-quality cotton twill, cotton canvas, or upcycled vintage textiles.
- Thread: DMC embroidery floss. Recommended colors include "Heritage Garden" (815, 223, 3363), "Cosmic Folk" (729, 930, 355), "Botanical Shadow" 581, 934, 154, 316 or "Aged Parchment" (612, 976, 839, 712).
- Transfer Tools: A heat-erasable pen or water-soluble stabilizer.
Supplies Included:
- Heart sampler pattern and all materials to complete the project.
- Beginner: No prior experience necessary.
- Intermediate: Familiarity with basic outlines and a desire to learn shading and 3D textures.
- Beginner Techniques: Running stitch, backstitch, lazy daisy, and French knots.
- Intermediate Techniques: Split stitch, fishbone stitch, long and short stitch for color blending, and woven wheels for 3D roses.
- Technical Refinements: "Tweeding" (mixing thread strands), directional stitching, and padding for an embossed appearance.

For this reason we are only able to issue refunds or class credits, if WE, Bib & Tucker Sew-Op happen to cancel or reschedule this class. If YOU register for this class and are unable to attend for any reason, we offer a 50% refund for cancellations 30 or more days prior to the class, we offer no refund for cancellations less than 30 days before the class.
